AI note taking robs us of the process of determining what's important

These days, there exist numerous AI-related note-taking workflows. These AIs will transcribe and/or summarise data from various sources and save them for us in the note-taking app. But, ironically, these AI systems rob us of the very essence of note-taking.

A note is a piece of text which doesn’t just contain the summarised or collected information. It also reflects the process behind the creation of that note, meaning the person who decided to take that note determined that particular information to be useful and worthy of recording. There is an emotional journey where we sifted through a bunch of information and picked this one particular instance of information for safekeeping. We chose it because it emotionally affected us in some way. We consider it important based on our experience.

An AI can summarise something better than I can, or transcribe something more accurately, but it can never take my notes for me, just like it can never eat for me.

So, through these AI workflows, all we are collecting are snippets of blurbs with which we have no emotional connection. It is just hoarding.
